A Claude Code User Says Moving One Chat to the Desktop App Deleted 23 Sessions and Left Files Named 'deleted_'

A bug report filed 31 October says about 23 Claude Code sessions were marked deleted and their transcript files removed within about 20 minutes, while the user was moving and renaming one session between the command-line tool and the Claude Desktop app. What was left, per the report: tombstone files named "deleted_<id>" and a marker reading {"reason":"delete"}. No copy in the Trash, no Time Machine snapshot. The handoff worked. The chats just didn't make it.

Key facts

  • The report says the deletions happened between 06:05 and 06:27 local time on Claude Code 2.1.314 on macOS, and that the user did not delete anything manually.
  • The reporter asks that a Code-to-Desktop handoff or clean-up "should ARCHIVE (reversible) or move transcripts to Trash, never unlink them irreversibly".
  • This is one user's report; as of 2 November the issue had no reply from Anthropic and no confirmation from other users.
